Los Angeles Downtown News Readers have voted the South Park Business Improvement District (SPBID) the best business improvement district in the newspaper’s annual “Best of Downtown” contest.
Los Angeles, CA: South Park BID provides cleaning, safety and economic development services and programs to the 52-block neighborhood in the southwest corner of Downtown Los Angeles. In the last 10 years, the district has seen unprecedented growth, transforming what used to be a neighborhood comprised mostly of parking lots and warehouses into the residential and entertainment hub of DTLA. The BID’s programs, projects, and on-the-ground operations are designed not only to keep up with the growing population of residents and visitors, but to advocate for enhanced infrastructure to ensure long-term sustainability.
With 39 development projects in the pipeline, the neighborhood’s residential population of 12,000 is expected to exceed 30,000 by 2023. In preparation for this new wave of growth, SPBID has increased both safety and maintenance services, onboarded a South Park-specific Homeless Outreach Coordinator, and launched new community outreach programming, including dedicated events for residential building managers and small business owners, issues-based discussion groups, and an increasingly popular series of “Meet Your Neighbors” resident mixers.
The South Park community has embraced its changing skyline, and under the leadership of the BID, the diverse cast of stakeholders are coming together to form strong relationships and new partnerships – residents, developers, large and small businesses, and the City are each rising to the challenge in their own way to contribute to a clean and safe place to live, work, and play. “With so much activity happening in our district, the BID places immense value on our partnerships with owners, businesses, and the City to achieve our mission. The growth we see on the horizon only increases the importance of coalition-building, and continuing to work toward shared goals.” says Ellen Riotto, SPBID Executive Director. Through their public Board of Directors meetings, Infrastructure & Planning and District Identity & Marketing committee meetings, the BID is continuously creating opportunities for members of the community to directly shape the evolving neighborhood.
As the recipient of the LA Downtown News 31st Annual Best of Downtown “Best Business Improvement District” award, South Park BID is grateful to the readers who cast their votes, and remains committed to working with the community at-large to deliver a clean, safe, and vibrant place to be.
